Growing up with a plethora of medical issues, art became my vehicle to communicate and connect with those around me. While other kids spent their hour after lunch at recess, I spent mine at physical therapy. A divide in culture and upbringing made it difficult for me to depend on words to communicate my experiences to others. Art tethered me to the normaliness of my peers around me. The things I could not express- the pain, the sorrow, the isolation, the joy- I could at least show visually. Art became the brace to help me heal, grow, and connect.
”Such is Life” is a continuation of my lifelong journey of connecting and communicating my personal experiences with the world around me. To show the normaliness of being a kid in a different world. The vibrant joy and colorful patterns of the medical culture many disabled children grow up in. “Such is Life” will implore you to redefine what normal is and bridge the gap between yourself and those who are different around you; connecting around the marvelousness of childhood.
